Tips for cleaning dairy milking equipment

In this article, Desing livestock equipment is talking about how to perform dairy milking equipment. Desing is a professional livestock farming equipment manufacturer in China, it has been serving for customers sourcing for different livestock raising equipments.

The purpose of dairy cow milking equipment cleaning is to thoroughly remove all dirt from the surface that comes into contact with milk, reduce the number of microorganisms and ensure the quality of milk.

Once a certain cleaning of cow milking equipment goes wrong, there will be milk scale or bacterial film formation. The nutrients of milk are also good medium for bacteria. A large number of bacterial reproduction will lead to a great increase in the microbial content of milk, directly affecting the quality of raw milk, resulting in a decline in milk grade or even rejection.

Therefore, each dairy hall should establish an effective cleaning process to ensure the production of high-quality and hygienic milk, reduce energy consumption, protect the environment, and achieve sustainable development of the dairy industry.

First of all, cleaning milking equipment and cold tank need what necessary conditions

No matter what kind of cow milking equipment or cold tank, to achieve a good cleaning effect, four elements must be guaranteed: a certain mechanical scouring force, appropriate temperature, effective detergent, and ensure adequate contact with the surface of the equipment for a certain amount of time to remove all dirt.

To realize the above four elements for cow miling equipment cleaning, the following conditions must be met:

The cleaning water must meet the drinking water standard;

The heater (electric heating, boiler or solar energy) must be sufficiently capable;

Must have a temperature indicator and work normally;

Choose an effective cleaner.

The cleaning of cow milking machine  should pay special attention to quality of water.

Water is a necessary medium for equipment cleaning and plays multiple roles in cleaning.

It is a solvent and diluent for lactose and chemical detergents, as well as a cleanser that pushes turbulent washing fluid across the inner surface of cow milking equipment system .

Water, in turn, conducts heat, accelerating the chemical reactions that clean the system through heat and, ultimately, removing dirt from the equipment.

Therefore, the water used for cleaning cow equipment must meet hygienic standards;

You have to have enough heat, you have to have enough water, you have to have enough flushing power to do that.

    In milk production equipment used in various ranch, cleaning agents and cleaning method will be different, milk processing enterprises of raw milk of dairy products processing requirements are different, no matter how, any kind of cleaning cow milker equipment must have some cleaning qualities, cleaning and disinfection of cow milking equipment best cleaning system should meet the following conditions:

    Remove dirt from all surfaces of cow milker;

    Kill or remove bacteria of milking equipment;

    Non-corrosive to cow equipment;

    Use minimum time and energy consumption;

    Safety in food production and residues;

    Be environmentally safe.

    The most common way of cleaning cow milking machine is a three-step cleaning method based on alkaline washing. Pre-washing -- alkaline cleaning with chlorine -- post-washing is used to determine the frequency of pickling according to the hardness of water.

    This method of cleaning is widely used in most European and Asian countries, such as the Netherlands, where it is the standard method of cleaning ranches.

    But the traditional Danish method of cleaning is: pre-rinsing - alkaline rinsing - cold water rinsing - acid rinsing, rinsing with pure cold water before cow machine milking.

    The most common cleaning steps in the United States are: pre-rinsing - alkaline rinsing - acid rinsing, and disinfection before milking.

    In New Zealand, pickling is generally adopted as the main cleaning method, namely boiling water cleaning with acid cleaning agent, cold water washing and regular alkaline washing.

    In a word, what cleaning method for cow milking machine is used depends on the customs and legal requirements of different countries, as well as the energy cost of heating water, cleaning cost and cleaning conditions available for cow mikling machine.

    • Common issues of cow milking machine equipment:

    • Although wall charts of cleaning cow milking procedures or standard cleaning cow milking machine procedures have been posted in most milk halls in China's dairy farms, there is a large discrepancy in actual operation. The most common problem for cow milking machine cleaning is insufficient water temperature, or the use of solar water temperature cannot be guaranteed constant, or the lack of electric heater capacity, etc.

    • Water temperature is not up to the requirements that are the enemy of cleaning, cleaning temperature can not guarantee that will lead to equipment scale, the number of bacteria in milk, milk quality decline, or even dairy rejected, resulting in direct economic losses.

    • The common cleaning problems of the cattle farm mainly include the following aspects:

    • 1. Insufficient water temperature for cow milking equipment cleaning

    • Normal temperature cleaning agent requires that the water temperature of alkaline washing should reach 75~85℃, and the water temperature should be not less than 40℃ at the end of the cycle cleaning, otherwise, the milk fat dirt in the cleaning water will solidify and precipitate again, and form milk dirt on the surface of the equipment.

    • In the actual production, the capacity of the boiler in the pasture is often smaller than the actual demand, especially the electric heating equipment is generally small, or the hot water originally used for cleaning equipment in the pasture has been increased for multiple purposes, resulting in insufficient hot water. After the circulation, the temperature drops to below 40℃, resulting in serious scale accumulation in the equipment and greatly reduced milk quality.

    • 2. Incorrect cleaning procedure

    • Immediately after milking, cow equipment should be pre-rinsed with warm water of 40~45℃. The rinsing water should not be recycled and directly drained. At this time, 95% milk residue in the equipment should be rinsed.

    • The use of cold water for the first pre-rinse will easily cause the milk fat to solidify. In addition, the cold water will reduce the temperature of the equipment.

    • A large amount of heat energy will be consumed in the second cleaning with hot water, which is not energy-saving and more difficult to clean because the milk fat solidifies and deposits on the surface of the equipment.

    • 3. Cycle cleaning cow milking equipment time is too long

    • Cycle cleaning time is not the longer the better, the general equipment can be mastered in 5 to 10 minutes.

    • If the cleaning time is too long, the water temperature will drop below 40℃, which will cause the dirt to deposit on the surface of the equipment again. During the two milking intervals, the bacteria multiply greatly, resulting in the increase of milk microbial content.

    • Large equipment is CIP automatic cleaning, the time has been pre-set, just press the open cleaning button.

    • 4. Insufficient amount of detergent

    • Some farms in order to save costs, using a few cleaning agents, especially when water hardness is high should increase the amount of cleaning agents, the amount of insufficient cleaning is not clean or the use of poor quality cleaning agents will cause microbial index rise, affect the quality of milk.

    • Pasture should choose a good reputation, value for money cleaning agent, the pursuit of cheap products, ignoring the food safety is absolutely not desirable.

    • 5. Cow milking equipment problems

    • The lack of maintenance of the equipment results in the decrease of working performance. The long-term non-replacement of rubber parts such as milk lining, milk pipe and sealing parts will result in serious air leakage and unstable vacuum of the equipment, which is also one of the main reasons for mastitis.

    • When the surge amplifier is not working and the cleaning bracket sealing ring is aged or parts are missing, a large amount of sediment is deposited in the pipeline, especially the upper part of the pipeline is badly scalded, etc.

    • Therefore, to ensure good cleaning, it is necessary to ensure that cow equipment is in a normal state.

    How to achieve the best cleaning effect, to ensure the quality of milk

    Cleaning cow milking machine s an important link to ensure the quality of milk, absolutely not sloppy.

    Standard cleaning procedures must be followed, reliable and reputable cleaning agents selected, equipment cleaning systems must operate normally, and rubber parts and gaskets must be replaced regularly.

    The recommended procedures for normal temperature cleaning cow milking machine are as follows:

    1. Rinse

    In order to prevent the formation of milk scale, the equipment and piping should be flushed with warm water of 35~45℃ immediately after use.

    Flushing water does not circulate and should be discharged directly.

    Do not pre-rinse with hot water.

    This will denature the protein and form a protein film on the surface of the pipeline.

    But don't rinse with cold water either.

    This will cause the oil to crystallize and form a grease film on the surface of the pipeline.

    2. Cycle cleaning

    Determine the dosage of cleaning agent according to the instructions and the amount of cleaning water, and prepare appropriate cleaning solution.

    Do not change the amount of cleaning agent.

    Ensure that the temperature of the cleaning water is within the required range (the temperature in the pipeline is 70~85℃, and the return water temperature is not less than 40℃), and the time is 5~10 minutes.

    3. Flushing cow miking equipment

    After cleaning, flush the piping and all parts of the milking equipment with clean cold water (in accordance with the national drinking water standard) for about 5 minutes until the rinse water is clean.

    4. Drain

    After washing, to prevent secondary contamination of clean equipment and pipelines, drain the system thoroughly through the lowest point of the equipment (such as opening the drain valve at the bottom of the pump).

    5. Selection of cleaning frequency

    According to the hardness of cleaning water to determine the use frequency of acid and alkali liquor.

    The higher the hardness of the water, the more times of pickling is required.

    To achieve the ideal cleaning effect must use milking machine special detergent and ensure: cleaning temperature, washing speed, cleaning time.

    6. New methods of low temperature cleaning

    If for some reason, the dairy farm cannot meet the requirements of 75~85℃ for cleaning, a cryogenic cleaner can be considered, as the initial temperature of the detergent can be 45~55℃ and the discharge temperature after cycling should be no less than 30℃.
